Mission
The Greening the Heartland (GTH) 2009 Regional Conference Special Task Committee of the DRC (Detroit Regional Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council) is committed to continuing and enhancing the tradition of hosting this annual conference, since its inception in 2004. The conference will promote sustainable design, construction and management strategies and methodologies for the building industry to integrate and implement by encouraging joint leadership by the private and public sectors throughout the Heartland Region. Attendees will receive the "tools" to achieve these goals through outstanding education & training sessions, keynote speakers, tours, and other engaging activities. The event will focus on presenting tangible, practical information, case studies and proven methods and will be carried out to minimize impact to the environment.
Aim
Our committee's aim is to oversee and coordinate the successful planning and execution of this annual conference, while working cooperatively with the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) as our conference partner and other resource organizations. The committee will work within the guiding principles of the USGBC to promote their programs and incentives, along with input from the past hosting chapters, USGBC Heartland Regional Council (HRC) and other key USGBC staff.
As a Task Force initiative within the HRC, the GTH 09 Committee shall support the next hosting chapters by providing a playbook to be used as a planning guide for future Greening the Heartland conferences.
The DRC and ESD have formed a partnership model to deliver the 6th annual Greening the Heartland conference. Both organizations have found the experience to be mutually beneficial. The DRC and ESD intend to use this partnership model to produce a similar yet slightly larger conference on an annual basis.
